TRU06717 1/700 HMS Nelson 1944
- Customer Reviews
HMS Nelson was in home waters for the early part of home waters but the German ships easily evaded her due to her low speed. She also was put out of action for 8 months by a magnetic mine in December 1939. After repairs she was used on convoy escort duties and was standing by in case needed against the Bismarck. Nelson was then deployed to Force H, based at Gibraltar and took part in the Malta convoys. On one of the convoy runs, she was torpedoed by an Italian aircraft. After repairs she was back in the Mediterrenean, where her heavy guns were used to support Operation Torch, as well as the landings on Sicily and at Salerno. The Italian armistice was also signed aboard HMS Nelson.
HMS Nelson also supported the D-day landings, before being deployed to the far East, where she took part in further bombardments before accepting the Japanese surrender of Malaya. HMS Nelson sailed home towards end of 1945 and was used as a training ship before being scrapped in 1949.
Trumpeter's new kit of Nelson depicts her in 1944, after she had a big upgrade to her AA armament. This looks to be the best and most detailed kit of her in a smaller scale. It is a waterline only model and comes with a small fret of photo etch metal parts.
