SW72126 1/72 Douglas AD-4W/AEW.1 Skyraider, USN + Royal Navy
- Customer Reviews
The Douglas Skyraider was a single seat carrier borne attack aircraft, developed towards the end of WW2, that saw extensive post war service, in the likes of the Korean and Vietnam wars. It replaced the earlier piston engine carrier bombers and was capable of carrying a heavy bombload and a wide variety of ordnance. It was also adapted for other roles, one of which was Airborne Early Warning (AEW). In this role it carried a large radar under the fuselage and would patrol at a distance from it's parent aircraft carrier, thus effectively extended the aircraft carrier's radar range, to detect potential threats further away, allowing more time to react. These were used both by the US Navy and Royal Navy.
This is Sword’s model of the Skyraider AEW.1. Sword is a new manufacturer based in the Czech Republic. The kit is injection moulded in plastic with a good level of detail and engraved panel lines and also includes a resin engine. There are markings for 3 USN and RN aircraft.
