The McDonnell FH-1 Phantom was designed, built and first flown during WW2. It was the first jet only US aircraft to land on a carrier and the first used by the USMC. Only 62 were ever built and it entered into limited service with the US Navy and USMC in 1947 and its main achievement was to prove the viability of using jet aircraft on carriers. Its service was brief as it was outperformed in some aspects by late piston engine aircraft like the F8F Bearcat but it proved a stepping stone to the far superior FH-2 Banshee.
Special Hobby are a model company from the Czech Republic and are part of the same group as MPM. They specialise in limited run plastic kits, usually of subjects that the main manufacturers don't do.
This kit is injection moulded plastic with and it looks quite well detailed with fine engraved panel lines with decals provided for 4 different FH-1's used by US Navy and USMC Demonstration teams and trainers.
