The P-40 was the main US fighter in the early part of the war and was used not only by the USAAF but also by the RAF, RAAF and Free French.
They are most well known for their service in North Africa.
In the US all P-40's were known as Warhawks but in Britain the early ones were called Tomahawks and later ones Kittyhawks.
The P-40F/L Warhawk and Kittyhawk Mk IIA were both powered by Rolls Royce Merlin engines.
