The earlier marks were powered by a Rolls Royce Merlin engine and saw service in the Royal Navy from 1943. The Mk V was built at the end of WW2 and was powered by a Rolls Royce Griffon engine. The Barracuda was not a great success and crews preferred the Grumman Avenger. The Barracuda was withdrawn in 1950 and completely replaced by the Avenger.
Special Hobby is a Czech based manufacturer and this is their 1/48 Fairey Barracuda MkII kit. This is a detailed multimedia kit, consisting of mostly injection moulded plastic parts but with additional resin and photo etch metal parts.
There are markings for 3 Barracuda's; 2 from HMS Victorious (including 1 that attacked the Tirpitz) and one of the BPF aboard HMS Vengeance
