The MiG-29 (NATO code name Fulcrum) is the Russian equivalent to the American F-16 Fighting Falcon. The MiG-29 was designed as a light weight multi-role fighter and fighter bomber. It can exceed Mach 2 and possesses good agility, it can also use unprepared airfields if needs be. It is armed with an internal cannon and can carry air to air missiles in the fighter role or a mix of bombs and rockets for attacking ground targets.
The MiG-29 first flew in 1977 and entered service in the Russian Air Force in 1984. It was soon exported to the Warsaw Pact countries as well as countries friendly to Russia, such as Iraq. It has also been modified for use with the Indian Navy and will replace the Su-33 aboard the Russian Aircraft Carrier Admiral Kuznetsov. The UB model is the 2 seater, which is used to train pilots to fly the single seat MiG-29.
