description - Customer Reviews
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was designed as the US Navy's main fighter and first flew in 1970. This large swing-wing fighter was capable of exceeding mach 2 and could carry a heavy missile armament and a good fuel load. Its primary weapon was the AIM-54 Phoenix long range air to air missile, which was backed up by the AIM-7 Sparrow and AIM-9 Sidewinder as well as an internal Vulcan cannon. It entered service in 1974 and soon became the US Navy's primary fighter. It saw constant updates, including being fitted out to carry air to surface guided weapons but after just over 30 years in service it was retired in 2006.
The F-14 has been used in combat several times, successfully shooting down several aircraft and has also been exported to Iran in the 1970's. The F-14D was the definitive version, entering service in 1991. It featured new avionics and radar and more powerful engines.
Hobby Boss are a relatively new company to us in Western Europe. They are from China and are connected with Trumpeter. Hobby Boss are known for producing well engineered kits with a good level of detail.
This particular kit looks very well detailed and comes with a selection of ordnance, including Air to Air Missiles, Guided bombs and pods.
Markings are for 2 USN F-14's, 1 each from USS Enterprise, and USS Carl Vinson.
