The F-111 was a Medium range interdictor and tactical strike fighter, in many respects a jet eqivalent of the WW2 twin engined medium bomber. It entered operational service in 1968 and featured the then new technologies of the variable geometry (swing wing), afterburning Turbofans and automated terrain following radar. It had a large payload of 31,500lbs of weapons, housed in an internal bomb bay and wing pylons, as well as a top speed of around Mach 2.5 (1650 mph).
The F-111C was the version developed for the RAAF, which was the only Air Force other than the USAF to operate the type. It saw action in Vietnam, Libya and the first Gulf War. It has since been retired in 1996 by the USAF and 2010 by the RAAF.
Hobby Boss are a relatively new company to us in Western Europe. They are from China and are connected with Trumpeter. Hobby Boss are known for producing well engineered kits with a good level of detail. This particular kit looks very well detailed and comes with an the appropriate ordnance and drop tanks.
Markings are provided for 2 RAAF planes, including one in a 30 year anniversary scheme.
