The A-10 was a heavily armed US ground attack aircraft built round the massive GAU-8 30mm gatling cannon. The shells from the cannon could penetrate the top armour of most tanks and armoured fighting vehicles making it an ideal tank buster. In addition it could carry a large payload of bombs, rockets and guided weapons, giving the capability to engage and destroy almost any vehicle, gun, bunker or infantry.
It was first introduced in the 1970's and is still in use today with the USAF as no better or more cost effective ground attack plane has been developed. It has served with success in both Gulf Wars, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Libya.
Hobby Boss are a relatively new company to us in Western Europe. They are from China and are connected with Trumpeter. Hobby Boss are known for producing well engineered kits with a good level of detail.
This particular kit is a simplified kit ideal for children and people without much modelling experience. It does however, have some very nice detailing with fine engraved panel lines. The only thing lacking is any ordnance, if you want to modelled a 'bombed up' A-10, you will need to get the ordnance from other sources. That said, it is almost certainly a vast improvement on the older Airfix, Matchbox and Revell/Monogram kits.
There are markings for two USAF aircraft, one from the first Gulf War in desert camouflage and one based in Europe.
