EDK84190 1/48 Hawker Tempest Mk.II Weekend

The Hawker Tempest was developed from the Typhoon and was designed to remedy the Typhoon's failures as a fighter. It had a new wing of an eliptical shape laminar flow type, which improved the aerodynamics compared to the Typhoon, enabling higher speeds and climb rate. The new wing was too thin for fuel tanks so the Typhoon fuselage had to be lengthened to fit a new fuel tank, which also led to bigger control surfaces. The different marks of Tempest were determined by the engines used, as Hawker wanted to find out the most suitable engine. The Mk V was powered by the same Napier Sabre engine as the Typhoon and was the first into service in 1944, there was also the Mk.VI with a more powerful Sabre and the Mk.II with extremely powerful Bristol Centaurus engine.

The Tempest was very successful in service and excelled at low and medium levels and was probably the fastest piston engine fighter of WWII at lower altitudes. This coupled with it's fast acceleration + climb rate and heavy armament, made it the most feared allied fighter by pilots of the German Me262 jet fighter. Tempests also proved well able to intercept the V1 flying bomb and could also be equipped with bombs or rockets for ground attack missions. The Tempest was the RAF's favoured piston engine fighter post war until the early jet fighters were further developed and available in greater numbers.

Eduard are a Czech based manufacturer famed for the model accessories. They have in the last few years released a successful range of kits. The Weekend editions contain the same plastic parts but without the extras.
This is an all new tool kit that isn't based on the previous Tempest kit by Eduard. This kit looks excellent, possibly one of the best 1/48 kits around and comes with decals for 4 different aircraft.
