EDK8224 1/48 Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat late version
- Customer Reviews
The Royal Navy, looking for better carrier planes, bought the Hellcat to replace earlier fighters and supplement newer British carrier fighters. In Fleet Air Arm hands it also proved a success and was carried by many Royal Navy Aircraft Carriers.
Eduard are a Czech based manufacturer famed for the model accessories. They have in the last few years released a successful range of kits. Their Profipacks contain a kit with several marking options, along with a Colour Zoom etch set, Canopy Mask and a full colour instruction booklet.
This is Eduard's latest 1/48 kit and it looks like it might be one of the best kits you can buy in 1/48. The canopy can be modelled open to show off all the photo etch cockpit detail and the engine detail is excellent in this scale. The model features fine engraved panel lines and is very crisp and cleanly moulded and resin wheels are included.
There are markings for 4 different planes:
Lt Cdr T Hugh Winters Jnr, VF-19, USS Lexington, October 1944;
VF-12/VBF-12, USS Randolph, May 1945;
Ens D McPherson/B Kingston jnr, VF-83, USS Essex, May 1945, and
VF-29, USS Cabot, March 1945
