The Heinkel He280 was the world's first jet fighter, with it's first powered flight taking place in March 1941. A total of 9 prototypes were completed and they flew as gliders or they were powered by Heinkel's own jet engines and the Jumo 004 engine (as was used on the Me262). It was also the first aircraft to successfully use an ejection seat, after a prototype suffered control failure. It was cancelled in 1943, as the Me262 project was showing more promise.
