The Fw190 first went into service in the summer of 1941. It proved to be much better than the RAF's Spitfire Mk V and soon became known as the Butcher Bird. Early versions suffered from overheating problems, which weren't completely rectified until later models. The Jabo versions were fitted as fighter bombers and could carry 250kg or 500kg bombs under the fuselage.

The D series were interim fighters used as a stop gap measure while the superior Ta152 was being developed. The main difference was that they were powered by a Jumo inverted V-12 engine with annular radiator, instead of the BMW 801 Radial. Performance was greatly enhanced and they were able (with a good pilot) hold their own against the likes of the Mustang and Spitfire XIV.

JV44 was formed by Generalleutnant Adolf Galland in 1945 and comprised a composite fighter group based around the Me262 jet fighter with support from Focke Wulf Fw190D's. Many of the surviving high scoring air aces flew the Me262 but the Fw190's provided valuable cover for the jets taking off and sometimes landing. Their Fw190's had their undersides painted bright Red with White stripes so the local Anti Aircraft gunners could recognise them and not shoot at them.

Eduard are a Czech based manufacturer famed for the model accessories. They have in the last few years released a successful range of kits. The Profipacks contain a kit with several marking options, along with a Colour Zoom etch set, Canopy Mask and a full colour instruction booklet.

This kit contains 2 individual models that are highly detailed and not for beginners. It is made from injection moulded plastic but is very complex with some engine and cockpit detail. In this kit you get an optional drop tank and bombs. This sort of kit would really suit an advanced modeller, especially those who want to show off their skills in modelling competitions.

This Limited Edition set allows you to make any of 3 different Fw190D-9's and a Fw190D-11 from JV44. As a bonus there is also a 1/144 model of a Me262 jet fighter included!
