The Typhoon was designed to replace the Hurricane and was fitted with the powerful Napier Sabre engine. Early on it was plagued with problems but these were overcome and it went on to be a low level interceptor and the RAF's main and most successful fighter bomber.
Initially it was armed with Twelve 0.303 machine guns (Mk.1a) but these were soon swapped for Four 20mm cannons (Mk.1b). It was also capable of carrying 8 rockets or two 500lb (or later 1000lb) bombs but the cannons proved the most successful weapon used on the Typhoon. Earlier models were fitted with a canopy that used 'car door' style doors to gain entry to the cockpit. Later models had a simpler 'bubble canopy' with improved visibility for the pilot and a simpler sliding hood.
Brengun are a Czech based manufacturer and this is their 1/72 Typhoon kit. The kit is injection moulded plastic and is well detailed with engraved panel lines, with decals for 3 different RAAF and one aircraft captured by the Luftwaffe
