AZM74048 1/72 Messerschmitt Bf 109G-14 (Erla Haube) with wooden fin
- Customer Reviews
The Bf109G was similar to the F but it introduced the DB605 inverted V-12 engine, which was more powerful than the earlier DB601, with more development potential. The main early versions were the G-2 and G-4, which has a 20mm cannon and 2 7.92mm machine guns in the nose. The G-5 and G-6 had the machine guns replaced by 13mm heavy machine guns, which needed bulges on top of the cowling to accomodate the larger breech blocks.
The G-14 was an attempt to rationalise production of the G-6, so they could be produced in greater numbers. Late in the production run of the G-6, a number of modifications were introduced. The first was a new canopy by the Erla factory, this simplified the canopy, reducing the heavy framing a little, giving the pilot a slightly better all round view. Another was a new taller tail and rudder, there was even a new taller tail wheel. In reality The G-6 and G-14 came off the productions lines with a mix of old and new features, so the G-14 was effectively still a G-6! Like the G-6, the G-14 remained in production and service until the end of the war.
This is AZ Model's excellent new tool Bf109G-14 kit. The kit is highly detailed with engraved panel lines and comes with markings for 3 different Luftwaffe aircraft, including the famous ace, Oscar Romm.
