The Royal Navy as part of its re-armament between WW1 and 2, built a number of destroyer flotillas (8 ships per flotilla), the A-I classes to very similar designs. They then had the famous large Tribal class destroyers, which had a heavy gun armament, built for them. The next step was a new design somewhere between the two, armed with 3 twin 4.7 inch guns and 10 torpedo tubes. These were built in 3 different flotillas - the J, K and N's. HMS Jervis was part of the first batch and the more famous HMS Kelly was part of the second batch. These destroyers proved successful in service and they formed the basis for the future 'emergency war destroyers'. They were deployed to all theatres and were in the thick of the action wherever they went.

HMS Jupiter initially served with the Home Fleet from 1939-41. In November she was sent to the far east, joining HMS Repulse in the Indian Ocean and sailing onto Singapore. She was part of 'Force Z', escorting HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse, when the two capital ships were lost to air attack on 10 Dec 1941. She then joined the allied ABDA command and sank the Japanese Submarine, I-60 on 17 Jan 1942. On 27 Feb 1942, she took part in the Battle of the Java Sea, following the initial phase of the battle the Allied fleet retired, after the heavy cruiser HMS Exeter was crippled and a destroyer sunk. During this temporary retreat, HMS Jupiter struck a dutch mine and sank

This is an all new tool kit from Aoshima in 1/700 based on their recent HMS Jervis kit. The kit looks to be of good quality with a decent level of detailing. The kit is waterline only and comes with a decal sheet.
