AIR11005 1/72 Avro Shackleton AEW.2
- Customer Reviews
The Avro Shackleton was the ultimate in the development process that started with the Avro Manchester, which entered service in 1940. The Manchester became the Lancaster with its 2 Rolls Royce Vulture engines being replaced by 4 Merlin engines. The Lancaster was developed into the larger, more powerful Lincoln and in turn the Shackleton was developed from the Lincoln.
The Shackleton was a maritime patrol and bomber aircraft powered by 4 Rolls Royce Griffon engines. It still had the large bomb bay of the bombers it was developed from, giving it the capacity to be armed with a wide variety of bombs, depth charges and torpedoes. Some versions also carried twin 20mm cannon in the nose and in a mid upper turret. The Shackleton entered service with the RAF in 1951 and the last ones were retired by the RAF in 1991. In addition to its maritime patrol role, it was converted for use in ASW warfare, also an AEW aircraft, Air Sea rescue and also as a troop transport.
This kit is an all new tool kit from Airfix and features a highly detailed cockpit and crew compartments and bomb bay, as well as a detailed exterior with engraved panel lines. Decals are provided for 2 different RAF aircraft.
