AIR08021 1/72 Vickers Wellington Mk.II
- Customer Reviews
The Vickers Wellington was the RAF's biggest and best large bomber in the early part of WW2. It could carry a reasonably large bombload for a twin engine aircraft and had a good range. It could also absorb large amounts of damage. The Wellington was improved through various marks, with different and more powerful engines, enhanced defensive weapons and larger bomb load but despite improvements, it was superseded as a large bomber by the Stirling, Halifax and Lancaster.
They continued being a front line bomber in Europe until 1942 but carried on as bombers for most of the rest of the war in the Mediterranean and far East theatres. Wellingtons were also converted successfully for service with RAF Coastal command, where they were used as maritime patrol aircraft and bombers, attacking shipping and U-boats. The Mk.II was the same as a Mk.Ic, except the radial engines were replaced by Rolls Royce Merlins.
Airfix’s Wellington Mk II is based on their new tool series of Wellington kits and as such, they are probably now the best Wellington kits in 1/72. This kit is well detailed and comes with decals for 2 RAF aircraft.
