The Fw190 first went into service in the summer of 1941. It proved to be much better than the RAF's Spitfire Mk V and soon became known as the Butcher Bird. Early versions suffered from overheating problems, which weren't completely rectified until later models. The Jabo versions were fitted as fighter bombers and could carry 250kg or 500kg bombs under the fuselage. The A-0 was the pre-production model of which 28 were made. It was armed with 6 machine guns and was used to 'iron out' any technical issues with the aircraft and gain operational experience before going into full production and service.
AZ model are a model company from the Czech Republic. They specialise in limited run plastic kits, usually of subjects that the main manufacturers don't do. This kit is a re-issue of a kit released a few years ago. It is injection moulded plastic and it looks quite well detailed with fine engraved panel lines but a bit more skill will be required to build this kit than would be needed in a mass produced kit, so it's not a kit for novices. It also includes a resin wheel well and cockpit tub. There are decals for four different Luftwaffe aircraft.
